If you are looking to store your excess solar power for use at night, Tesla Powerwall is the real deal. It’s a beautifully designed battery, but more importantly, it’s designed to last.

The biggest issue with any battery is the heat that is caused on charge and discharge. The better the heat is managed in a battery, the longer the battery will last. At best, other solar storage batteries will use a fan to cool the batteries down. Tesla, on the other hand, use what they call “active cooling” and pump a liquid coolant around the cells that make up Powerwall. It is the active cooling that is the reason the warranty can be so generous. A full 10-year warranty with unlimited cycles. This warranty is not matched by any other battery in the industry.

It shouldn’t come as a surprise that Powerwall is so beautifully functional. The founder of Tesla, Elon Musk (amongst his many other achievements) is responsible for sending the first commercially funded vehicle to the international space station. Soon enough, his fully electric, auto-piloted, Tesla model 3 car will be commonplace on our streets. Mr Musk knows a thing or two about engineering for quality.

Increasing self-consumption of solar power generation –The problem with solar is nighttime. It’s not worth sending your power back to the grid for as little as 6 cents only to buy it back at night for 26 cents. Powerwall solves this problem by storing excess solar electricity during the day so you can use it at night.

Load shifting – “Time-of-use” tariffs (T31 or T33) have been introduced as an option in Brisbane. On a TOU tariff, you will be charged more for power at dinnertime and less at midnight and lunchtime. If you have an off-peak tariff, we can program the Powerwall 2 to prioritise discharging during peak periods when electricity prices are higher, saving you even more.

Back-up power – When your street is in a black-out, you’ll be glad you have a Powerwall 2. A generous 13.5kW of backup power will be enough to get you by when the grid is down. Make sure a backup power option is included when you are quoted on a Powerwall 2.

Powerwall 2

As an AC-coupled battery, Powerwall 2 is suitable both for retro-fitting to an existing solar system and installing in a new home. While Powerwall has a built-in inverter, it does not replace your existing inverter that is connected to your solar panels. Your existing solar inverter is still required to change (or invert) the power from the solar panels from DC to AC. The inverter in Powerwall 2 is designed to change the AC from your solar inverter back to DC, so you can charge your battery.

Solar storage is primarily designed so you can use your solar power at night, but you will still be connected to the grid in case you run the Powerwall 2 flat. Backup power (in case of a blackout) should never be assumed when you are purchasing any home storage battery. If you want to use your AC-coupled Powerwall 2 during a blackout you’ll need to have a good quality recent model inverter (such as the Fronius Primo). We will also need to install a Tesla AC Backup module and reconfigure your switchboard to suit. In backup mode, the Powerwall 2 will give you a limited amount of power on chosen circuits.

We would highly recommend M C Electrical regarding solar instillation. From the beginning when we watched Mark on Youtube, when he explained in detail all about Solar and answered a lot of the questions that we had helped us to make the decision to choose M C Electrical. It's now been several years since I have dealt with MC Electrical. I needed to contact them for an inverter fault. Shane made it so easy, just a picture from the panel and the unit was ordered. Shane's flexibility to bring flexibility forward the replacement was awesome for me as weather conditions had created an opportunity. His tech team was outstanding explained the process of the replacement and where he would need my assistance i.e. wireless setup and power off. He kept me informed through the process and addressed all my questions politely and in a way I could understand. When he was leaving there was no mess even though he had been drilling the wall for new mounts for the inverter. He also explained the difference I would see from the newer type of inverter. He explained the ins and outs of operating with the battery, and we had a short unexpected power outage overnight which proved to us how simply our power supply transitions from the grid to battery. Was referred to MC by a friend who is getting work done, outstanding work, I had to get some extra switchboard work done as it was an old house. Professional and Neat installation, they have a good back-end support and set everything up for you.I have an EV and they handled putting in the charger etc, Not the cheapest but I went with them because I heard they were end too end great installers and not some cowboys, I wanted to make sure I get some back up service if anything goes wrong... which from what I have seen shouldn't. From the installers to the Office staff, big thumbs up.They also thing outside the box if there is something that needs to be changed on your installation.

MC Electrical installed our 11kwh solar system and they did a brilliant job.The workmanship is to a very high standard and the staff are friendly and helpful. After service care is also fantastic.There was a little bit of confusion as to where exactly on the roof the panels were to be installed due to a last minute panel orientation change. I wasn't happy with the end result and MC electrical sent staff around to assess and moved a large section of panels that would have been at significant cost to them. Most companies would have walked away and it's an absolute credit to their service.Thanks MC electrical, I wouldn't look anywhere else - you get what you pay for.

Honestly, I am very appreciative of these guys. No fault of their own, my system was much more complicated than most jobs, including 3 phase meter upgrades for my business.
