As seen on Open Homes Australia Season 4 and Australia’s Best House Season 3
Our experience with MC Electrical has been fantastic from the first phone call. I didn’t want the cheapest, I wanted honesty and reliability with a quality product and they didn’t disappoint. From the girls in the office, to Mark who did our quote, and the guys that did the site inspection and install.

Mark is the owner and manager of MC Solar & Electrical. He’s an electrician, an accredited solar installer/designer, an electrical contractor, a blogger and YouTuber. Read his story.
Mark is not only passionate about solar but about doing business right. It’s a simple ethic: look after your staff, and encourage them to look after your customers. It seems to work.
Wendy is a former maths teacher with a dual degree in law and maths. Where Mark makes the decisions on who to hire, Wendy makes it official by setting up staff contracts and overseeing payroll. Wendy is always behind the scenes ensuring the paperwork is up to date and accounts are in order. We’re all thankful to Wendy for being the one who pays us each week!
Ryan joined us as a qualified electrician in 2015. He has extensive experience in domestic and commercial electrical work. His main role is overseeing the installation teams, from scheduling jobs to being tech and motivational support for our team of electricians. But that’s selling his role short. Ryan is key in every aspect of the business.
Shane completed his electrical apprenticeship with us in 2019. After working for us on the tools, we asked Shane to do a hybrid role of Service Manager (in the office) and backup service sparky (on the road). We find having a skilled and practising sparky on the other end of the phone has brought our customer service to the next level. He’s also a secret YouTube star who beat Mark to 100K views with this video.
Before Brady completed his electrical apprenticeship with us, he pursued a career in aircraft engineering. Brady is an extremely hard worker who is passionate about renewable energy, and a truly top bloke. It’s safe to say we’re glad he realised his calling as a solar electrician.
Josh started out labouring for us in 2014. We soon worked out he was a keeper so we took him on as a mature-age apprentice. He completed his apprenticeship in 2018 and chose to stay on with us as a tradesman.
Shane completed his apprenticeship with MC Electrical in 2018. Shane loves the complexity of doing a solar battery install with backup power just right. He’s also a gun at commercial solar installations. There’s no one better when it comes to figuring out how to tackle the more challenging and complex jobs.
Dane started with MC Electrical way back in 2014 as a solar trade assistant. We put him through his paces on the roof but he quickly showed us he was ready for more… Fast track a few years and now Dane is a qualified electrician and CEC Accredited Solar Installer. Dane is what you might call a bit of a tech head, so he’s right at home installing the new generation of feature-rich inverters we see in today’s solar industry.
Alan joined the MC family in 2016. He was recommended by his mate Dane. That worked out well! Today Alan is one of our sparkies along with his mate Dane. Alan is a champion at solar installations and a great mentor to the apprentices. Alan also loves the complexity of installing solar batteries with backup that actually works.
Kyle started his electrical apprenticeship elsewhere but joined our team in 2019 as an apprentice electrician. When Kyle completed his time in 2022, we kept him on as a tradesman. Kyle is an all-rounder electrician, and we’re glad he chose to stay with the MC family.
Nicole is our solar consultant extraordinaire. She started in the solar industry in 2009. After working with Nicole, Mark picked her as a super star. In 2015 Nicole finally joined the MC family when she realised that MC way of doing things was more her style. Nicole is much happier now, selling the right product at the right price.
Ben started with us in 2017 in administration. It seemed like a strange move for a bloke with a degree in marine biology, but Ben knew his passion. Ben is now our in-office solar designer/estimator. His approach to sales is technical rather than salesy. Ben also spends a lot of time researching panel technology and other related topics. He blogs about his findings in “Mark’s blog”.
Yorick is another of the old guard, starting with MC in 2015. Yorick used to work alongside Mark and Ryan with service and after-sales support. As a veteran in the solar industry, we have figured early on that Yorick is a keeper. In 2016 he asked to step out of the office so he could work directly with our customers. If there is something Yorick does not know, he will ask and learn. No BS.
The best way to train a salesman is to get them in the office with Mark Cavanagh and Ryan for a couple of years. That’s where Mark Bunting started in 2017. In 2019 Mark hit the road as a solar consultant. The technical skills he acquired in the office have helped him tailor the perfect solar system for any situation. He has a degree in graphic design and has picked up solar design with ease too. Don’t confuse him with Mark Cavanagh. Mark is much better looking.
Starting with us in 2017, Jason is the most recent in our superstar line-up of installers to become not only a qualified solar electrician, but also a solar consultant who knows the installation process inside out. He is a super friendly, top-notch sparky with an eye for detail and solar design, so we welcomed Jason’s transition into the all-important role of solar consultant.
Having honed his skills in warehousing, logistics, and asset management, he’s got the skills to keep our inventory running smoothly. Off the clock, Scott’s all about hitting the open road on his bike or diving into 3D design projects. But don’t let his tough exterior fool you—Scott brings insurmountable positivity and empathy (his words!) to the team, making him a joy to work with.
“From the beginning the team at MC Electrical has been professional and a pleasure to deal with. After contacting over 12 different solar installers, I am very pleased with my decision to go with MC. They have kept me well informed throughout, and strived to speed up my install despite rainy conditions – and were very prompt in responding to my questions/concerns. Thanks to Yorick, Shane, Kendall, and Alan. Highly recommended.”

Jo has been in the finance industry for 13 years. Although new to the solar industry itself, she has a passion for sustainability and an abundance of enthusiasm. When off-the-clock, she loves travelling, experiencing new things, and learning about new cultures. Also for a bit of wow factor, in a previous life Jo was a part of a travelling circus.
Kendall joined MC Electrical in 2022 as your first point of contact after-sales and she is no solar spring chicken. She was part of a solar business for many years before she applied for a job with MC. We hadn’t met someone so insistent that they’d be perfect for the job — and right she was.
Lauren brings a wealth of experience in medical administration, as well as a Cert IV in Youth Work. She’s been eager to learn the ropes with a positive, can-do attitude. She loves the outdoors, going to the beach, travelling, and riding dirt bikes with her son.
Devina worked with Mark for several years in the early beginnings of MC Electrical. A decade later she returned in 2022 with experience in marketing, communications and fundraising from the profit and not-for-profit sectors. She is an avid reader with a love for learning about people, cultures, psychology, and spirituality.
Lawrence came recommended by one of our electricians and joined MC in 2018. He started with us as a solar trade assistant but quickly proved himself to be a hard worker with a great work ethic. It wasn’t a hard decision to sign him up for his adult electrical apprenticeship.
Rock climbers do well installing solar. Phil joined our installer team in 2020 after he was recommended by one of our team. He quickly proved the recommendation was warranted so we signed him on as a mature-age electrical apprentice. In his free time, he loves going 4WDing and rock climbing. His skills in the latter are impressive.
Bringing vast experience from a previous family solar business, Chris started with us in 2021, settled in quickly, and joined MC Electrical as a mature-age electrical apprentice. In his spare time, Chris enjoys camping and spearfishing.
Harrison traded his army boots for work boots after 5 years as a Driver Specialist, then added 1 year in the solar game to his résumé. He swapped Newcastle, NSW for Brisbane in 2018, and we couldn’t be happier. When he’s not scaling rooftops, you’ll find him fishing, camping, or 4WDing. Friendly, enthusiastic, and never one to shy away from a complex job, Harrison’s always reaching new heights—literally and figuratively.
We don’t always take on young blokes, but when they have a fire in the belly like Brodie does, it’s a no-brainer. Brodie started with us in 2021 as a solar trade assistant and when we saw him work, we offered him a rare junior apprenticeship. Brodie loves playing rugby league in his downtime.
Dylan joined the MC team at the end of 2021 after he was recommended to us by Mitchell. As a junior apprentice Dylan is the bloke that all of the tradies ask for if they have a hard job. We signed him up for his apprenticeship in 2022.
Matthew is a carpenter who left Melbourne in search of a better life. His 10 years of experience as a qualified carpenter was telling, so we enlisted him as a mature-age apprentice. In his spare time, he enjoys catching up with friends and family, going to music gigs and playing sports.
Dion almost completed his psychology degree before deciding to take on an electrical apprenticeship. Dion started with us in 2022 with a beautiful, positive attitude and a wide variety of experience in roofing, scaffolding, building and landscaping. When he’s not working hard for us, he enjoys rock climbing, reading and travelling in his spare time.
Niko joined us in early 2023 with an exuberant attitude, a willingness to learn, and a commitment to doing a great job. He was a builder’s labourer before he joined MC and has a bachelor’s degree in property economics. Niko prefers the outdoors whether installing solar, hanging out at the beach, or playing football.
Meet Brandon, our apprentice with a passion for the great outdoors. Brandon’s journey to becoming an apprentice includes a few years in carpentry as a trade assistant, as well as experience as an electrical apprentice with multiple companies. When he’s not honing his skills on the job, you’ll find him camping, fishing, hiking, or diving deep into the art of Jiujitsu.
Josh hit the ground running with us in 2023, bringing experience as a container fork operator for the Port of Brisbane and a locomotive operator for Wilmar Sugar. He’s a keen learner with a positive attitude and enjoys fishing, camping and his favourite ice cream flavour is mint chocolate chip.
